We’re delighted to announce that Arriva in North Wales have introduced contactless payments. This tap-on, tap-off payment method was deployed in collaboration with Littlepay and Ticketer and Transport for Wales.
Following the successful roll out of contactless open loop fare collection onboard all Arriva buses in 2019, the company has now installed a second contactless card reader across their entire North Wales fleet of over 170 buses. The move makes fare payments simpler than ever for passengers who can use the bank card or mobile wallet they carry everywhere to make quick and easy payment, and never have to give a thought to what ticket to buy.
Passengers just tap-on a reader as they board the bus, using their contactless credit or debit card – or Google Pay or Apple Pay on a smart device; then tap again on a second reader as they exit the vehicle. With taps aggregated in Littlepay’s back office, passengers always pay the cheapest adult fare for the journeys they take, taking into account daily and weekly fare caps.
Tap-on, tap-off makes paying fares effortless for passengers and gives them confidence that they will automatically get value for money. It’s also great for operators – by reducing driver interaction, they can get passengers on board quickly and maintain a punctual schedule.
Paul Griffin, Global Head of Commercial at Littlepay
With Tap-on Tap-off, bus journeys are made simpler by giving our customers peace of mind knowing they will be charged the best value Arriva fare, whether they make a single journey or multiple journeys. The partnership has led to the successful implementation of the TOTO scheme for Arriva adult products, and we look forward to evolving the ticketing options between other operators by adding the multi operator ticketing to TOTO during 2022.
Richard Hoare, Commercial Director at Arriva
We’re delighted to work with our partner Ticketer on continued ticketing and payments innovation for Arriva, introducing this efficient and passenger-focused new fare collection system.
