Glossary of Terms
We know that the world of transit can often be full of a wide range of complex terminology. From security protocols and payment models to innovative transportation solutions, understanding what these mean can help reduce miscommunication and maximise your efficiency.
To help you, we have put together a comprehensive glossary of some of the most common industry terms.
3DS
3DS is a security protocol that is short for 3-D Secure. This protocol enhances online transaction security by requiring multi-step authentication to verify the identity of the cardholder. Implementing this into your system can significantly reduce fraud risks in digital credit or debit card transactions.
Accessibility
Accessibility ensures that systems, services, and facilities are usable by everyone, including those with disabilities. It involves accommodating diverse physical, sensory, or cognitive needs in your products and services to ensure they are usable and inclusive for everyone.
Account-Based Ticketing (ABT)
This system allows travellers to use an account to manage all of their fares across multiple transit services. These users then pay based on account activity, eliminating the need for physical tickets and simplifying multimodal travel experiences.
Acquirer
The acquiring bank, or acquirer, is the entity who processes card payments on behalf of merchants. They ensure that transactions are completed successfully, handling the interaction between the cardholder’s bank and the merchant’s payment systems.
Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)
Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) are standardised software protocols that enable communication between different applications, allowing them to share data and functionalities. They are a vital aspect of modern transit systems, helping to integrate and improve operations.
