UrbanThings and Littlepay bring app-enabled mobile payments to Lothian Buses

Transport technology provider UrbanThings and transit payments processing specialist Littlepay have teamed up to deploy a flexible mobile app on the Lothian Bus network.

The UK’s largest municipal bus company, Lothian Buses, connects the Edinburgh and Lothian region with over 70 services and more than 700 buses running day and night throughout the year. Their determination to unlock true passenger value by investing in technology and people, led them to the UrbanThings mobile app – a convenient tool that allows passengers to plan journeys, access real-time information, purchase and download tickets, and load a smartcard via their smartphone.

UrbanThings is a UK-based technology company that builds technology solutions for cities, local authorities, and transport operators, helping them streamline transport management and enhance the passenger experience.

“We are thrilled to continue our collaboration with Littlepay bringing the latest payment innovations and seamless digital experiences to passengers in Edinburgh and the Lothians. This marks an important milestone in our partnership with Littlepay, and I’m excited for what’s still to come.”

With the app deployed, Lothian Buses now offers integrated mobile payments using Littlepay as their Payment Service Provider. This frictionless experience enables passengers to purchase tickets online, giving them the flexibility to pay for their trip via the app before they travel.

“This collaboration with UrbanThings demonstrates our work with partners and merchants to bring the latest innovations that improve passenger experience, help operators meet their expectations, and increase ridership. Our commitment to evolving this relationship will ensure we continue optimising our offerings.”
