Case study
Investing in customer journeys with First
Background
A simple way to pay for travel is top of passengers’ want lists. First Bus were quick to recognise the potential of contactless EMV to make fare payments easy. The operator began working with Ticketer and Littlepay in 2017 to bring tap-to-pay to twenty First Bus operators. We continue to evolve products and services together to optimise passenger experience.
Our journey together
First has worked with Littlepay to introduce ‘tap and cap’ and ‘tap-on, tap-off’ (TOTO) systems, which give added value to passengers using contactless EMV payments for bus travel. By investing in contactless technology, First Bus has cut dwell times, and benefits from receiving real-time transaction data that helps them develop even better services.

Case study
Innovating multi-operator payments for seamless travel
Background
Littlepay’s first ever deployment was with Go-Ahead’s Oxford Bus Company in 2017. With our partner Ticketer, we launched contactless open loop fare collection on 280 buses. A national rollout followed. Since then, we’ve enjoyed a collaborative relationship, listening to Go-Ahead’s ambitions and developing products and services to help them achieve their goals.
Our journey together
Go-Ahead has spearheaded many Littlepay innovations including ‘multi-operator capping’, ‘tap and cap’, ‘tap-on, tap-off’ and flexible fares. Our multi-operator cap was first deployed by two Go-Ahead operators in Brighton, in the South of England. It layers a fare cap over each operators’ fare structures, giving passengers using both services automatic best value.
